When it comes to vacationing, it’s best not to do things halfway. If you’re going through the trouble of taking time off work, lassoing your companions together, packing up your suitcases and dropping a few bucks, be sure to take a real trip, one that will allow you to replenish your energy supply, recharge your batteries, and relax into the state of mind that you feel most comfortable in.

There’s a place on Florida’s Gulf Coast that would provide the perfect backdrop for this full-throttle, serious-about-kicking back getaway. It’s called Cape Coral, and it was literally created within the last few years to serve as a haven for cold-weather victims, tired souls, and overdrawn workaholics. This canal-infused, vacation rental-filled destination is blessed with both natural beauty and man-made conveniences, so enjoying yourself here is a matter of when, not if.

Renting a vacation property will make you feel like one of those privileged people who use the word “winter” as a verb. From beachfront villas decorated with the most modern furniture to condos that are practically luxurious, you’ll feel lucky to be alive as you unpack your bags (into big closets and real, wooden chests of drawers, by the way) and settle into more than just a hotel room. This vacation is going to be all about your mindset, and when you’re setting up shop in an actual house that delights you with charming details around every corner, believe that it’ll be pretty darn easy to find that your mood is as light as a feather.

Cape Coral’s fabulous beaches and easy to navigate layout will have you hopping on and off your boat with ease, touring the coastline, and enjoying plenty of lounging time stretched out on your favorite beach blanket. Many rental properties have swimming pools at their disposal, but this geographically ample town has plenty of wide open space where the ocean meets the land, too. Basically, whatever floats you boat will be available to you.

Cape Coral has eco-tours to guide visitors through the diverse wetlands brimming with wildlife, and there are also lots of shopping and amusement opportunities in this vacationer’s play land. Water parks for the kiddies, vast stretches of seashell dotted sand, restaurants, beach bars and souvenir stands will all compete for the chance to whisk you and your loved ones away to the responsibility-free world that Florida is known to encourage. Don’t feel that sticking close to “home” is a bad thing, though. Many Cape Coral visitors who have deemed it worthy to rent a villa or town home are satisfied with taking their time to read a book, cook a family meal, or just hang out and play games together.

Considering the fact that your property will likely contain the sorts of amenities that make life easier – washer and dryer, dishwasher, full kitchen – as well as a few fun ones thrown in for good measure – entertainment center, hot tub, game room, consider the house to be an important component of the trip that shouldn’t be given short shrift. Especially if you’ve previously only stuck to blah-hotels or nicer ones that still didn’t make you totally happy, take this chance to try something new and very likely to please you and everyone in your group.

Mosquito bites
When you go outdoors, it is lush and green and your companions for the evening, sometimes, are also the local mosquitoes. While some people are not too affected by their bites, others (including me) are. In those allergic to the bites (me too), the irritation of the bite is followed by intense itching and a red swelling around the bite. This is because of the enzymes a female mosquito injects into the skin before sucking blood. While these bites are pretty harmless, there is the rare chance of some infection from them (malaria!) and in any case, they are best avoided.

Mosquito repellents abound in the market, and most of them seem to be pretty effective when used as directed. It helps to wear long trousers and full shirts.

If you get bitten, the best course of action is to do nothing. Scratching only intensifies the itch. If the irritation is very severe, rubbing ice, or any cold metallic surface helps to a great degree. The ideal thing to do is to get involved in something to distract from the itch.

If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter!

Snakes

In the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, snakes rule. They seem to be found in every region we go to. Yet, we have not had a snake related casualty on a programme. The reason is that snakes are shy creatures. Very few of the snakes we come across are actually venomous and even the ones that are, would prefer to flee rather than encounter a creature many times its size and waste the precious venom that it uses for digestion and cannot do without. Humans are not prey sized for any of the snakes in our region in any case.

Still, snakes can bite, are slithery creatures and give most of us a jitter at the very least.

There are many things we can do to avoid snakes and snake bites. Look carefully before reaching into crevices or under rocks. Wear shoes in the wilderness at night and walk slowly to give them time to escape. If you come across a snake, stamp your feet to alert it to flee and move away.

In the rare case that you or someone with you gets bitten, look at the wound carefully bites from venomous snakes leave two puncture marks and non-venomous bites leave scratches. If you are in doubt, or if it is a venomous bite, tie a tourniquet on the thigh, or upper arm and reassure the victim and help him or her to be calm, to keep the heart rate as slow as possible and move to the nearest medical services at once.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HANDLE OR CAPTURE SNAKES THAT YOU COME ACROSS UNLESS YOU HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO IDENTIFY THEM ACCURATELY AND HANDLE THEM ADEQUATELY. This is a leading cause of snake related accidents.

Scorpion bites
Scorpions abound in the outdoors in India, and being careful is a virtue second to none. They are nocturnal, so it helps to be aware that they could be around after dark. Basic precautions include shaking the bedding thoroughly before getting in, if it has been laid out for some time, shaking out shoes before putting your feet in, not reaching into dark crevices of any sort without checking them out first. If stung, the procedure is the same as for a snae bite. Keep calm, restrict the spread of venom and rush to the first doctor you find.

Dehydration
Dehydration is the most common medical problem in the outdoors and the chief cause of headaches and faintness. We are unaccustomed to spending a long time under the sun, or in physical activity. We lose a great amount of water through perspiration and even plain evaporation through our skin.

The result is a headache, faintness, chapped lips, exhaustion … We need to drink water to cover our loss from exposure to the environment. Keep a water bottle with you at all times and make a habit of sipping from it. Hats, sunglasses and full clothing are useful in staying cool and minimizing water loss.

You will need more water than usual and not being used to it, you may not consciously feel thirsty, so try to consciously drink as much as you can. There is no such think as excessive water intake in the outdoors and you are not having enough if you don’t need to go and pee every couple of hours.

Sunburn
This one is self explanatory. Please apply adequate sunscreen, and reapply as needed. Hats, sunglasses, scarves and full clothing help. The more sensitive your skin is, the more careful you need to be about these things.

Chapped Lips
The chief cause of chapped lips is dehydration (smoking too). Most of the time, it is fairly safe to say that if a person has chapped lips, he needs to drink more water. Vaseline, lipbalms, etc. help to protect and relieve discomfort, but cannot actually cure the lips that are parched.

Cuts and scratches
These happen on exposed skin that gets rubbed on things near it. Long trousers and full sleeve shirts solve most of this problem. Being careful and avoiding scrapes does the rest.

Campfires An evening outdoors is all the more cozy around campfires. Some precautions can help make it worry-free.

Avoid campfires unless it is cold enough to require one, or you need it for cooking. The wood is best saved for fuel for locals, who might end up cutting trees in the absence of dead wood.

Build a fire in an area as sheltered from the wind as your site allows. Also build it downwind from your precious nylon tents that could get sparks and tinder from the wind.

Handle the fire from an adequate distance and with appropriate respect for consequences of carelessness. Pay particular attention to long hair and loose clothing when bending over a fire.

Enjoy to your hearts content!

Before retiring for the night, make sure that the fire is dead. Dunking a pail of water and putting a couple of flat stones on it is a good way of ensuring this. Wind directions often change in the night and early morning and you don’t want to be sleeping soundly in your tent when the wind brings embers that way.

These ideas are precautionary, and there is a huge potential for fun. So don’t forget to have a great time.

Explorers on Cassadaga Creek

The map showed a squiggly blue line for Cassadaga Creek. This could either be good news, portending an intriguing paddle down a twisting waterway. Or, it could be a sign of logjams, with trees, washed by spring floods, piled at each bend in the creek. Luckily for my husband and me, Cassadaga Creek is part of the Marden E. Cobb Waterway Trail, a paddle-way maintained as a clear passage by the Chautauqua County Parks Department.

On a cool summer morning, we launched into the gently flowing waterway with the trepidation of explorers heading into the great unknown. We were Lewis and Clark, paddling in uncharted waters without Sacagawea or the rest of the Corps of Discovery. Of course, we weren’t carrying a year’s worth of supplies either – only enough for a single overnight. And, these waters weren’t uncharted. A map, in a plastic bag, lay secure under a bungee cord on the deck of my kayak. Still, the tingle of anticipated adventures to come was unmistakable.

The channel was narrow and at times bushes, overhanging from the shores, reached to brush our shoulders. We pushed through easily, rounding bend after bend. Gradually sunlight began to filter through the lush forest to warm our bodies and set the trees aglow with the green of a ripe, freshly picked sweet pepper. The chirps of goldfinches filled our ears as they flitted among the bush-lined shores. Combined with the gurgle of the water moving past obstacles and the splash as our paddles cut the water surface, bird chirps were all we heard. We’d escaped the bounds of time to glide downstream in the wilds of the 1800s, away from the noise and busyness of the 2000s.

Eventually the channel widened to 20 or 30 feet, but it never ceased to wind. We glided easier, propelled by a gentle current as we developed a rhythm to our paddle strokes. Mellowed by the undulating stream and rhythmic paddling, we were startled as we rounded a bend to find deer, standing in the creek, drinking. They were even more startled than us and they leaped to the bank and dashed into the woods.

I placed my paddle in the water behind my kayak and used it as a rudder to steer through the turns. By letting the current carry my boat I could relax, let go of daily stresses, and focus on the sights along shore. I floated past wild iris in bloom, delicate tree roots exposed by erosion and turtles basking in the sun on partially submerged logs. We passed under a few road bridges but otherwise, no signs of civilization. A muskrat or beaver poked its slicked down, furry brown head above waterline than quickly darted to the safety of the creek bottom. We were invading his home turf. In the split second of recognition it was hard to tell which animal was eyeing us. Both are abundant along this creek.

After 5 hours and 13 miles (and abundant breaks) we reached the lean-to along shore and gratefully beached our kayaks. Like explorers of long ago, we had earned a rest for our tired bodies. Lewis & Clark didn’t have the luxury of a 3-sided shelter to provide protection from potential rain, but we did. They also didn’t have a food bag bulging with steaks to grill over the fire, and tin foil pouches of veggies and potatoes to roast in the coals. As modern day explorers didn’t have to rough it.

The next day we continued our journey downstream to find new discoveries around each bend. But this night we ate heartily and savored a warm summer evening around a campfire before snuggling into our sleeping bags inside the shelter to dream like adventurers.

You have the choice to choose between the stuffed hotel rooms that are not big enough for everyone or the resorts that provide you plenty of room. With a timeshare, you can each have a bedroom of your own and a kitchen to save food costs.

A hotel may be all right, but when you are bringing more than yourself along, you will need something different. Any couple with children, with four or five coming together in one place, needs more space than a hotel can give. A condominium in a resort will be the best fit for all of you.

Have More Room To Sleep – Large Family Style – Hotel Rooms Not Necessary

Timeshares offer you a kitchen – this saves money on food and gives you a private diner. Not only can you stop buying fast food while on vacation, you can relax and eat healthier. Try making something new each night to add an excitement to the vacation.

Invest In The Vacation To Come – Protect yourself against the rise of inflation – The year is thought to bring about hotel rates that are higher. Up to six percent more money than in the past. The hotel rooms open and the tourists who are not renting them bring on this non-harmony of supply and demand. Why should you be bothered with any of this?

Make A Financial Deposit In Those You Love – Timeshares will provide your family the vacation they need each year. Not only are they on a fun vacation, you are spending quality time with them. That makes good memories for all of you.

Dimensions Matter

The basic timeshare will provide you more room than a hotel can. Follow along:

1. A hotel room is about 240 square feet
2. Condo is about 1100 square feet

Not hard to see the difference!

When on a vacation, hotel rooms cause you to become claustrophobic with all of you in it. When the kids fall asleep, the adults have no playtime left. The more rooms you rent the more money you spend and you will be uncomfortable with them in another room. The children are free to eat whatever they want because it is harder to watch them correctly.

Taking A Vacation With Your Friends

If you are the type of person that loves to get a bunch of your friend together and go on a vacation, a timesharesreview.com/Sell_My_Timeshare/ timeshare is the right thing for you. All who are coming with you will have their own private rooms. It is very easy to find a two or three bedroom with all things furnished and a large kitchen. You will be able to have fun and cook together. This is great for your social life and for your wallet.

Things For All To Do

Amenities are the one thing that everyone wants most. Timeshares are the way to get these with little effort. Hotels give you a few things to tease you with like a pool. Timeshares can offer you much more. You will be able to go into the sunshine or the snow. The children will have some interesting things to do. You can find crafts, pool, miniature golf, and movies to name a few. Some of the resorts offer you a private beach, tennis, and golf courses. You might find that you are very close to area attractions like skiing, fishing and of course, shopping.

When on a walking safari, mountain climbing or walking round the camp, it is advisable to be aware of the following guidelines on health and safety in the African Bush.

Altitude related Illness: These illnesses can kill you and every year tourists die from altitude related illnesses. Higher altitudes are colder even in Africa; there is less oxygen and to walk slowly is essential especially for hikes or climbs above 1,500 to 3,000 meters above sea level. You should be breathing easily with no panting and no extreme physical excursion. Drink water regularly and eat a light diet with lots of carbohydrates. It is essential to keep warm.

Hypothermia or exposure: this is life threatening condition with a lowering of body temperature and can occur with a temperature as high as 10 c [50 f]. Usually caused by cold wet clothing or simply poorly clothed for the conditions. The signs/symptoms include clumsiness, stumbling, apathy, lethargy, confusion, disorientation, and eventually unconsciousness. Treatment for this is to immediate warm the patient in a warm dry environment – a sleeping bag is ideal with one or even two people inside the sleeping bag with the patient. Warm energy rich drinks help as does rest with a return to camp as quickly as possible.

Acute Mountain sickness: This affects many people above 2,050 meters [or 10,000 ft] signs/symptoms include headache nausea fatigue, malaise, loss of appetite, restless or no sleep. The treatment is to slow down, remain in camp, drink water, and rest your body. It is important to adjust to altitude slowly. In case of severe headaches, loss of coordination, breathing difficulties evacuate immediately for medical attention. This condition kills tourists every year in Tanzania!

Hiking in hot or sunny weather often causes heat exhaustion the signs/symptoms are weakness/fatigue, headache, vertigo, thirst nausea/vomiting faintness high body temperature. The treatment is to lay flat in shade, remove clothing to cool the patient, soak the body with cold water, re-hydrate patient and monitor body temperature

Heat stroke is more serious with the signs/symptoms being delirium, coma, rapid pulse, rapid breathing; skin hot and dry, body temperature above 40c [104 f]. Treat as for heat exhaustion but this condition can be fatal so seek medical assistance quickly – evacuate if possible.

Wildlife; try to avoid interaction; normally the wildlife will try to avoid you. Buffalo or elephant may attack if surprised or provoked. When hike in forest or dense bush clap often or call out if met by an aggressive animal; at all times follow the instructions of your armed guide. Never feed wild animals with baboons and monkeys being highly dangerous and they can steel by force as they have learnt to get food from the tourists.

Weather in Tanzania has a rainy season November through to May with sometimes a dryer season January to March dividing the season into short and long rains. It never rains all the time. The dry season June to October, the coldest month being July with high altitudes reaching temperatures bellow freezing.

If you get lost remain where you are; your guide will look for you and find you quicker if are on the trail – this sometimes happens in fog or dense forest. A day pack should include instant body shelter, warm clothing and a water proof jacket, matches or lighter, a mirror or whistle for signaling, food and drink [esp. water] basic first aid, torch and a compass.

Some areas have stinging nettles, no shorts in these areas with stings causing temporary but painful irritations

Safari ants are small shiny brown ants move rapid in columns across trails – they are common and carnivorous, they crawl up your trouser legs and start to chew. Tuck trouser into socks and watch where you step and especially where you stand.

Acacia thorns “cat claws” of the wait-a-bit thorn tree rip skin and clothing – the thorn is long and straight and can pierce soft soled shoes and even car tires so take care and try not to wear sandals.

Ticks may be found long grass, to remove a tick grasp head and jerk out of skin.

Snakes will usually avoid humans; one exception is the puff adder. This snake is sluggish and slow to move. When moving around in the dark use a torch to avoid a most unwelcome encounter with the puff adder.

Scorpions lurk in the dry country under rocks, behind bark and sometimes climb into boots, clothing or equipment left out at night. The sting from a scorpion can cause severe pain for several hours.

In conclusion to protect yourself – dress right and drink right. Climbing in mountains or highland prepare for extremes. Watch your self day time temperatures can reach 35 c with little shade and may well be freezing at night at higher altitudes. Fine weather can turn into fog or rain quickly. Always carry a waterproof and dry clothing in a plastic bag to keep warm wool and synthetics are better than cotton or down – to keep cool cotton is the better option. Protect yourself from the sun with a hat, sunglasses, skin protection also drink plenty of water and eat a diet high in carbohydrates for energy. Avoid alcohol at high altitudes.

In learning the French language it is strange, perhaps, but true that there are few things quite as exciting as speaking French with native French speakers in France or another French-speaking country. If you have not experienced this for yourself you may be doubtful about what I am saying, but here is my own experience to demonstrate the point.

I recall with pleasure various conversations held in French during trips to France. These were not massively important conversations in themselves, not even about business or politics for example. They were simple chatting-type conversations about everyday life.

For example, I had a very enjoyable conversation with the person who was running a car hire establishment, a conversation in French language that lasted for some 20 minutes while we waited for the car I was to hire to be returned ready for me to use. It was a simple conversation during which I was learning about life in that little town and how it was different from life elsewhere, nothing ground-breaking in itself…

So what is it about putting your French language learning into practice like this that is so exciting? A simple conversation like the one described above, conducted in English as one’s own native language, would be pleasant but hardly noteworthy. What does make it so seemingly special, is the power that learning French gives you to enter an entirely new world that is separate from the one you normally inhabit.

If you have learnt French, you can enter that world of French culture that is normally barred from your life and understanding, for to learn about French culture using the medium of English is far from the same thing. This ability to enter the life of another culture seems an almost magical skill that sets you apart from others who do not possess it.

French language learning and ability also has many practical uses, apart from this exciting magical aspect. In practical terms being able to speak French enables you to function within a French speaking culture — you can hire a car, order food in a restaurant, book a hotel room and so on.

As an incidental bonus, learning the French language will enable you to impress those who do not possess this skill. For example if you go on vacation to a French speaking country with some friends who cannot speak the language, then your ability to converse with the locals will almost be a magical power that gives you a sense of control your friends do not possess.

A note of caution. French language learning will not enable you to do what is described here unless you have access to the sounds of a native French speaker. You can achieve this through personal tuition, but that is very expensive, so it is better to find a high quality language learning course that incorporates a large element of audio made by French native speakers.

You can get a very reasonably priced French language learning course based on native French audio by visiting

Nuweiba in Arabic means, “Bubbling Springs”. It is located in Sinai, Egypt along the northwest bank of the Gulf of Aqaba. It is said to have been developed from barren land with no infrastructure!

Most Middle East and Egyptian countries are famous for their belly dancers and Arabic music. Nuweiba being a beach town has a heady mix of history sun sand and music.

Nuweiba is roughly divided into three parts- the beach, the city and the Bedouin fishing villages of Tarabin and Muzeina. The city has the bazaar where you can find souvenirs to take back home.

The construction of the port connected Egypt to the rest of the Arab world. In the past pilgrims on their way to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage (HAJ) halted at this port town.

Now it is coastal tourist destination with a stretch of magnificent stunning white beaches and diving and snorkeling sites. And why not stay at the Hilton Nuweiba coral resort located in the Nuweiba city.

What to do there?

What does one do at a beach resort laze around the beach during the day and party all night! There is much more you can do in Nuweiba like go scuba diving, go on a camel safari and visit the tribal Bedouin fishing villages of Tarabin and Muzeina.

Go scuba diving and snorkeling:

There are a number of reliable diving and snorkeling operators in the area. The Aqaba gulf has a diverse marine life, and its turquoise clear waters make it even more enchanting for diving.

Some famous dive centers are Scuba Divers La Sirene, Sinai Dolphin Divers, Emperor Divers and Dive Center Nuweiba. Some virgin untouched diving sites are the Ras Mamla and Ras Abu Gallum; to go there you have to take permission from the Tourist Police and Protect the Reefs Office because these sites are under the Ras Muhammad National Park.

Colored canyon excursion:

This is in the middle of the desert. It is a gorge formed by water passing through the mountain for hundreds of years revealing the different colored layers of rock. The sheer size of the canyon leaves awed.

There are no facilities at all here. You have to take all that you need with you and as for natures call you will have to make do with going behind the rocks! Tour operators arrange tours in four-wheel drives to the canyon.

Go back into the past:

You can visit the fortress at Tarabin built by the Mameluke sultan Ashraf Qansouh el-Ghouri in the 15th century to protect it from the Turkish invasion. The well in this fortress has been a source of water for the Bedouin tribe.

You can also visit the famous St. Catherine monastery between Nuweiba and Taba. The route via Nuweiba is a picturesque one along the flat plains. St. Catherine’s monastery was built around the 4th century, which is believed to be the site of the burning bush. The fortress that surrounds it was built around the 6th century and is still an operating monastery.

Have a Bedouin dinner:

If you are a foodie and love to try different cuisine you can go for a special Bedouin dinner at one of the Bedouin villages.

The Night Life:

Being a beach resort Nuweiba has an active nightlife. Most hotels have a pub, disco, and arrange beach parties. As for drinks, you can opt for the local brand-Stella, which is cheaper, or an imported one such as Heineken obviously more expensive.

Tens of thousands of European holiday makers will plan, book and descend upon the shores of Malta this summer but as one of Europe’s best known and loved destinations might have more to offer than the typical package holiday might suggest. The islands position at the centre of the Mediterranean has resulted in a rich legacy stretching back some 7,000 years offering a cultural and historical wealth that would be of interest to those not usually inclined to snap up the benefits of a traditional package holiday.

A staging post at the crossroads of maritime routes, Malta has been, at various times in its’ history, a stronghold, home and refuge. Its’ unique position between the mainland of Africa and Europe have attracted a rich tapestry of cultural influences that can be felt in the island today. The island’s capital, Valletta, is a historic, walled town founded by knights is an interesting, baroque influenced town that has recently been awarded the accolade of World Heritage City. A heady mix of old and new, Valletta offers historic attractions, modern culture and a bustling atmosphere a world away from the traditional resorts of St Julians and Silema.

Exploring beyond the traditional resorts gives a greater impression of Malta and a more rewarding experience to the more independently spirited traffic. The south of the island is characterised by small fishing villages and secluded bays offering an authentic insight into rural Maltese life while inland the medieval walled town of Madina boats a rich heritage and historic attractions as Malta’s ancient capital. visitmalta.com Malta’s tourist website provides a suitable introduction to the islands wider attractions.

Escaping the resort towns and venturing further is well worth the effort in Malta and whether you are looking for an independent holiday of culture and history or merely a day or two away from the sun and sand, the island has plenty to offer. Travelling in Malta is relatively straight forward but getting off the beaten track can be a little difficult with public transport. The best way to explore is be rental car and most of the major easycar.com/car-hire/links/Malta.aspx/EN car hire firms in Malta.

For further exploration of Malta – take a boat trip to the sister islands of Gozo and Comino for a more tranquil and sedate taste of Mediterranean life. Accommodation here is limited but well worth the effort is you trult want to get off the beaten track on holiday in Malta.
