I’ve been thinking about this lady in San Miguel de Allende. I don’t know her well. I’ve never met her, actually, but we have corresponded. She told me that she’s tried learning Spanish. She’s spent money she didn’t have to attend classes that yielded little in the way of spoken fluency in the language. Her experience? It’s very typical. You come to Mexico, you might even come to live, and take classes only to find very little, if any, success in learning the language. Imagine the despair, the frustration, and the emptiness.

I’ve seen a trend in the research I’ve been doing lately. I’ve been looking at American expats in many different countries involved from Foreign Service to simple retirement. The overwhelming common theme that dominates almost all of the Americans in foreign countries is the linguistic inability to communicate with the locals of the country.

Some Americans, let’s face it, do not want to learn the language. If they don’t have to, why bother? They associate with other monolingual Americans and locals who speak English. In Asia during the 1950’s, the locals called the enclaved Americans The Social Incest Club.

What is so sad to me are those who want to learn the language and make a valiant attempt only to fail. They want to significantly expand the social group with which to have communion and fellowship but they can’t. They are forced either to mingle with the Gringolandia “Social Incest Clubs” exclusively or they remain alone and isolated. These are motivated people who need to know a secret.

The “Translation Method” of language instruction, the method which dominates almost everywhere, by design cannot work to teach you spoken fluency.

What are all the different language instruction methods that have come down the pike in the last 100 years? Why are there so many methods and which ones, if any, really work?

NEXT: What is the translation method?

Most gringos move to Mexico based on a Concept and not a Reality. Find out the difference by clicking on the link below:

At the moment you are enjoying your well deserved Costa Blanca holiday, after the fist couple of days in your holiday villa or apartment you might wander, where to find a nice restaurant at the Costa Blanca?

The first part of the evening you will have to search a nice restaurant, if you are in Altea, or if you want to visit this beautiful place, you will find some very nice restaurants.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, there is a very nice restaurant at the first line of the beach in Altea called “Tutti Frutti”, you can gat a pizza, but I really would advice a very nice salad, served in an eatable bowl, the menus are good priced and very nice. From the terrace you can overlook the Mediterranean, which will provide you with a nice cool breeze.

Near the Altea church, moving down from the churches square in the direction of the Sierra Bernia Mountain you will find a busy street with some very nice restaurants. In “Estromboli” you can eat very good Italian food and they have very nice smashed tomato sauce, from grandfathers own garden.

At the other side of the street you have the very nice restaurant “Ousteau”, which is brilliantly decorated and has a fantastic ambiance. The very friendly staff will guide you to your table, which with nice warm weather can be on a cosy outside terrace, but always will be nice situated. The food is very good, you can choose from a “Hollywood” card, making you doubt between a “Al Pachino” steak or a “Marlin Monroe” salad…

If you would like to spend some more, enjoying the good gastronomic life I will advice the restaurant “el Nuevo Alcazar” in La Nucia. A really good restaurant managed by people crazy about food.

Also a very high standard you will find at the restaurant “La Fusion” and “Los Dos Lunas” in el Albir, 2 more to put on your list to try.

If you like to have something tipical Spanish, Benidorm is the place to be.. In the old town of Benidorm there is a special street with a lot of typical “tapas” bars, here you will find the Spanish people enjoying all kinds of small snacks and nice wines.

Of course you will find as well Mc Donald’s as Burger king in Benidorm, but it is not recommended to go there unless you can’t really stop yourself.

The Spanish food is really great to try, like a good paella you can try it in the “Chiringuito” in the beach of Albir, where the Spanish are all at large tables eating the paella. For those who absolutely despise of seafood there is a special paella type called “a banda” and one with only vegetables. Also there is a very large grill were they prepare some giant steaks.

Anyway, it’s the golden rule to see if a restaurant is good, look if there are enough Spanish people sitting there!!!

Enjoy your meal!!

Static Caravan Hire In The Uk

Vast numbers of people across the UK choose to hire a static caravan for their holidays each year. Caravan holidays represent an ideal choice for families, especially those with young children, who may not wish to venture abroad for their holiday due to the travel involved or due to the cost.

There are many caravan owners from all over the country who choose to lease out their caravans throughout the season. Hiring a caravan directly from a private owner can often be significantly more cost effective than renting directly through a caravan park, or through a travel agent. The lower price of renting directly from a private owner for the same holiday experience is well worth considering and could save you hundreds of pounds.

You will find that most static caravans for hire will have some sort of entertainment featured in the caravan itself, such as a television or a stereo and that the owners will provide cutlery for your use and often bedding. Some caravans may have verandas fitted, with seating areas for eating outside when it’s nice, or perhaps for just enjoying the local views. Often caravan owners will also meet and greet you upon your arrival to the caravan.

There are hundreds of caravan holiday parks scattered across the country to choose from, based on what you are looking for in a caravan holiday. Whether you prefer a bustling site with entertainment and activities for all members of the family, or if you desire a more peaceful and serene holiday experience, you are sure to find the destination to appeal to you and your party.

For those of you who crave full entertainment and plenty of activities to keep you busy, why not choose a caravan for hire at one of the 34 Haven Holidays caravan sites? Popular Haven sites include Devon Cliffs Caravan Park, near Exmouth, Perran Sands in Cornwall, Caister Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth, Kiln Park in Wales, Haggerston Castle in Northumberland and many more.

Of course you are not limited to staying on the site to enjoy your caravan holiday, you can always venture out in to local area and enjoy discovering new places and tourist attractions, then come back to your home from home and relax later in the day.

Many static caravan owners have their own personal websites to allow you to view details about their caravan, so you can get a feel it and of course to check availability and prices. So you should never have trouble finding a private caravan for hire.

Florida’s tourism has suffered a great decrease as a vacation choice in the past years mainly because of climate and political misfortunes. The fact of the matter is that a vacation in Orlando with the whole family remains a sure way of having a fun-packed vacation that will please everyone. Actually, you can turn the situation in your advantage by planning a big Florida vacation now. Therefore, you will benefit from shorter waiting lines and still get to see the world famous family entertainment that will make your Florida vacation a winning deal for all.

Allow me to share the top ten tips that I find most useful when planning a big Florida

Vacation.

1) Plan in advance. Just by looking at the brochures, you are building expectations among your family members and they are already having fun. Making a small book with pictures (of their favorite characters) taken from traveling brochures will only take you a couple of minutes yet it will give your children (and yourself)

the opportunity to dream about their future vacation.

2) Upon your arrival, if you rent a car, place a distinctive ribbon on your antenna. This little trick will prove of great value during your big Florida vacation when you are looking for your car in the huge parking lot at the end of your day in a theme park. I also recommend that you mark down the parking row where your car is. After, a couple of days of visiting, you will appreciate not having to look around or try to remember if you are parked on Mickey7 or Donald 13!

3) Once you have unpacked and taken a refreshing leak in your private pool, pack your whole family in the car and get to the nearest shopping center. The first stop will be at the nearest Wall Mart or souvenir shops. There, you will find for at least half the price, the same items sold in the parks and you will have saved big bucks. This way, your children will either not bother you for those expensive items sold in the park or understand when you answer they already have something. Next, you want to stop at a grocery store and stock up on healthy foods and bottled water. This way again, you will not spend your week eating unhealthy and very expensive food in the parks.

4) In your Florida vacation planning, do not get carried away and add too much to your schedule. Orlando offers so much family vacation fun that it is impossible to see everything in one vacation. You will just have to come back and take another big Florida vacation! I highly recommend that you plan one day of rest in the middle of your vacation, doing almost nothing or very little that day- a dinner show, miniature golf, shopping or just a quiet day at the beach. This way, your whole family will be ready and anxious to continue their visits of the theme parks and enjoy the rest of their big Florida vacation.

5) Upon visiting parks, use their Fastpass services or equivalent. You will save tons of precious time this way.

6) When visiting theme parks, start at the back of the park, the lines are usually much shorter . There is almost no wait in the lines for very small children rides after 4:00 p.m. because most parents have ran out of the park with their tired and crying children. You then just have to get there and enjoy the rides. I did the ride “Small World” four times in a row upon visiting Disney World with my daughter one time because there was absolutely no waiting. Pure bliss!

7) Make your restaurant and shows bookings in advance so you don’t have to wait upon your arrival. I highly recommend you book one of the “Dine with the Characters” at Disney World. This way, your children get to see and touch their favorite characters and you get the greatest souvenir pictures.

8) Resist the temptation to stop at all those booths promising you cheap or free tickets. These are all Timesharing sales tactics and you might end-up wasting a whole day of being pressure-sold. Your time is way more valuable than this.

9) Enjoy yourself and allow yourself to be a child again. Take time to really enjoy your big Florida vacation and realize that this vacation is also for your pleasure. Everything does not have to be perfect this time, just fun!

10) Strongly consider renting a Florida house near the parks instead of crowding yourself and your loved ones into a hotel room. Many Florida vacation houses offer the comfort of a full-kitchen, a backyard pool and a room for every child for the price of a hotel room.

There are very important reasons why the Travel Industry is looking for reliable Travel Coordinators. One of the major reasons is ‘International Travel Safety’ has become a major concern.

The Travel Industry has long since provided a way to help Americans Travel more safely. Again, this is an ancient old method of travel. Even the wagon trains traveling west were not exempt from this method.

Group Travel

Agencies are looking for Travel Addicts; I mean Coordinators all the time. I guess you are wondering why a Travel Agency would be looking for Travel Coordinators? Most people would say that would be the job of a Travel Agent. Wrong! Most Travel Agents do not travel that often. They are busy booking travel for their clients. They loose money every time they leave their office or computer. Its the Travel Coordinators that travel often.

Travel addicts are the people who arrange their life to accommodate last minute travel. Travel addicts usually will pay the rent or mortgage, however the 401K or any savings or investment of any kind is subject to finance travel at any given time.

A Group Travel Coordinator would have the following attributes: commitment, loves travel, likes people, have confidence in marketing themselves and their travel destination, can give attention to detail, love to coordinate, and can use common sense, then you qualify to Travel FREE.

This opportunity works out best when you start out as a hobby and turn it into a part-time job then a full-time business. It is not necessary to re-invent the wheel – do what others have done before you. I know one retired man who started out selling an exotic travel party in the Caribbean each year. Word of mouth took over, because people really enjoyed themselves, and now he does not have to work a 9 to 5 job. The commission from booking 300 to 500 people a year into a 5 star resort on the islands each year, pays off BIG.

I suppose you are wondering how a Travel Coordinator just starting out travels FREE? Easy, when you book 6 people or 15 people or what ever number the Travel whole seller sets; one person goes FREE.

Example: Say you have 9 people that want to go to China. You have a mark-up of 15% on the wholesale price, plus you get one free hotel and air if 6 people sign-up. Your mother and father, sister and cousin, your girlfriend and her husband want to go and the lady at the church wants to go. And when another lady at the church found out from the Pastor that Mrs. J was going, so she decided to go. (Your husband said if he wants to see China he will go to Chinatown!) So you now have 8 people, 9 counting yourself. You get one free travel pass and you can decided to lower your package price at the last minute because you did not need the extra 15% mark-up, or you can keep it for any emergency during the trip or you can use it to market your next trip. It’s up to you!

Travel Coordinator Trivia. If you can see a problem already with the above travel group, then you truly understand Group Travel. Think about how you would handle the above situation BEFORE a problem occurs.

France – Paris and Nice

From beaches to the alps, France has a little of something for everyone. In this article, we take a look at Paris and the beach city of Nice.

Paris

It is hard to know where to start when discussing Paris. Take a boat down the Seine River and you will pass Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower and so many other notable spots it is easy to get overwhelmed. The city is simply that dramatic.

Long considered the most glamorous city in Europe, Paris has a little of everything. For the romantic, one can visit the haunts of famous writers, historical sites of just about every nature and the Moulin Rouge.

On the other hand, art lovers can spend weeks visiting the 100 plus museums in the city with, of course, the Louvre being the crown jewel. Personally, I found the Rodin Museum just as interesting, particularly since there was a much smaller crowd.

Perhaps the best way to experience Paris is just to wander around. Yes, take a few days to visit the notable tourist traps…err, destinations. Once you get tired of standing in crowds, walk out of your hotel and just keep on going. You will find little neighborhoods with eccentric characteristics to make you smile. As you plod along, real cafes and gathering places will become apparent. Make sure you visit them as the locals in these neighborhoods are very friendly and funny.

Nice

Nice is a small beach city just to the east of Cannes in the south of France. It is an odd mix of old world charm and beach culture. In and of itself, there is nothing particular about Nice when compared to Cannes with the exception of the prices. They are significantly cheaper and you get pretty much the same thing.

One extremely positive thing about Nice is the launching factor. Nice is close to everything and a natural launching point to go practically anywhere in the general region. You can hop on a train to the east and be in Monaco in 15 minutes. You can take a 20 minute minivan trip inland to learn how to make cheese and soap. Thankfully, this isn’t the same location.

France is a diverse country with a rich history. It can be easy to overdose on the volume of things to see, but you can’t do much worse than just walking out your door and exploring. Remember, those boots were made for walking.

To fly high, one needs to have his feet well grounded’ is an adage which finds its relevance even in today’s world of fret and frenetics. The desire to fly high has given way to flights and today where we stand in terms of aviation was perhaps not even thought of by our forefathers. Let history be gone and talk high of the world today which is full of excitements and the drive to soar up to heights never attained before!

Moving in between various locations in a time constraint and long distance scenario relies heavily on flights. The impact of air transportation on our respective lives has been rewarding in more ways than other. Our overwhelming response to its quality services has encouraged more and more players to reap in the benefits. This saw a geometric growth in the aviation industry worldwide and in the UK the trend for cheap flights began.

Purposes may be endless, reasons may inundate, but it remains a fact that being stationary will not meet ends. A holiday tour or a business trip, the requirement to keep up with time has been met efficiently by a proper planning of transportation wherein flight services have figured quantitatively as well as qualitatively.

The ‘web’ today is full of portals offering cheap flight tickets or cheap airfare packages. They specialize in providing quality service which makes it imperative for them to be on time and cost effective. Yielding to an increasingly competitive aviation market, the industry now has been transformed into a hub joining various locations worldwide through air.

Comparison remains the bottomline if one intends to nail down on a deal which would address their concerns comprehensively. For this, one needs to plan in advance and stay attentive, the rest as they say, fly high!

Traditionally, tourists in Sweden have come from the neighbouring countries of Denmark, Norway and Finland. However, in recent times, Sweden has become a much more popular destination with tourists from other parts of Europe; especially Britain and Germany, as well as from countries outwith the continent. But while many tourists restrict their visits to the most obvious destinations in Sweden, such as Stockholm, there are also many less frequented spots of beauty to visit in the country. The city of Gothenburg, for example, offers a range of cultural delights and attractions to enjoy.

Located in the province of Västergötland on the west coast of Sweden, Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden; as well as the country’s largest university city, counting some 60,000 students among its inhabitants. Perhaps due to the diverse composition of the city’s population, Gothenburg’s cultural offerings are both rich and varied. Its architectural heritage is interesting, dating back to the seventeenth century. Its eighteenth century buildings date back to the time of the East India Company – which made Gothenburg one of the most important trading cities in Europe – while its nineteenth century architecture centres on the main street of Kungsportsavenyn. Today, Gothenburg’s architecture is led by figures like Gert Wingårdh, who began as a post-modernist in the 1980s and still maintains a significant sway over the city’s architectural developments.

Gothenburg is also a European leader when it comes to music. It is, for example, home to the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, a leader in classical music. Furthermore, Gothenberg is home to the Gothenburg Film Festival, the biggest film festival in Scandinavia. The city also boasts a range of free theatre ensembles, such as the Gothenburg City Theatre, the Backa (youth) Theatre and Folkteatern.

But of all the attractions in Gothenburg, its culinary offerings are surely the most delightful. In fact, Gothenburg is famous in Scandinavia for attracting talented chefs. Its fantastic coastal position by the North Sea means that the city boasts a number of high quality fish and seafood eateries, as well as many Michelin starred restaurants. If you’re looking for great places to buy raw fish in Gothenburg, visit the Feskekôrka, or “Fish Church”, an indoor fish market. Furthermore, Gothenburg has the highest concentration of cafes and coffee shops in Sweden, partly as a result of its long-standing student culture.

If you’re interested in basking in the sights and sounds of this amazing city, rest assured that you won’t be short of options when looking for transport or booking scandic-hotels.com accommodation in Sweden. A variety of travel websites will help you find what you’re looking for; but you can always turn to established hotel chains in the region, such as Scandic hotels, for affordable and dependable family accommodation. So whether you’re travelling to Gothenburg on a family holiday, a romantic getaway for two or a backpacking trip with your fellow students, you’re sure to have a truly memorable experience!
