I’m a 34 year old father of one who grew up in Southern California. When I was a child, it wasn’t uncommon for me and my family to visit Disneyland at least three times a year. When I became a teenager, Disneyland no longer interested me because the things that seemed so large in my imagination appeared a lot smaller in actual appearance. You could say that, for me, the magic of the Magic Kingdom had gone. Now, through the eyes of my daughter, a recent trip to Disneyland has rekindled many of the fond feelings I once had as a child about the Happiest Place on Earth.

Several things have changed about Disneyland over the years. However, the one thing that remains constant is the look of wonder in a child’s face when they walk through the entrance and into Main Street for the very first time. The biggest change is what was once just known as Disneyland, is now known as the Disneyland Resort featuring four hotels, the Downtown Disney District, Disney’s California Adventure, and Disneyland Park. Our day was spent in Disneyland Park after a half-hour parking excursion that was a bit of a challenge and the only blemish on our visit.

The best way to navigate Disneyland Park and to avoid the crowds is to hit the E-Ticket rides (and old Disneyland term) like Space Mountain, Star Tours, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and Big Thunder Mountain, first. Then, work your way around the park and see some of the other biggies like the Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and Splash Mountain. Later on in the day, when all the other kiddies are tired, make your way into Fantasyland and ride the childhood favorites like Dumbo, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan’s Flight, and the Mad Tea Party (the Teacups). This tactic works just as well today as it has in years past and contributes to an even better time to be had. Another option is to take advantage of the Fast-Pass which is available on some of the rides. The Fast-Pass is basically a ticket that allows you to visit the attraction at a later, specified time, and skip to the front of the line.

My daughter loved every minute of our visit, but was especially thrilled by two particular rides. Her first favorite was Space Mountain, now known as Rockin’ Space Mountain. The added features of this ride are the speakers inside the train that pump out rock music in-sync with your high speed journey though outer space. My daughter’s other favorite was The Pirates of the Caribbean. The most fascinating thing about the Pirates is that it has become a ride based on a movie, based on the ride. The addition of Captain Jack Sparrow adds a fun, where’s Waldo element without detracting from ride’s original charm. I hate to admit this, but I had the most fun on the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. This interactive ride allows you to compete with your friends and family in a laser shootout through a dazzling light show of creepy aliens and the Evil Emperor Zurg. My final score was enough to beat my daughter handily. She is, however, only five years old.

Disneyland has always excelled at creating a fun, family atmosphere despite the large crowds that come through their gates 365 days a year. You’ll never find a piece of trash on the ground and the employees have mastered the art of keeping the lines moving so everyone can enjoy their rides. The availability of all of the favorite Disney characters allows for photo opportunities that you can’t get anywhere else. This magical day was one that my daughter and I won’t soon forget because we intend on starting our own family tradition of visiting Disneyland Park at least once a year.

For many years, Bengaluru was known throughout India as the greenest, liberal and forward-thinking city. In recent years, these attributes have propelled Bengaluru to the forefront of the high-tech industry boom in India, and it currently ranks as India’s most developed city and one of the world’s fastest growing urban areas.

Bengaluru has many nicknames. Garden City was once the nickname Bengaluru proudly claimed before rising population and pollution reduced the amount of green space and Bangaloreans quietly began referring to their city as the Silicon Valley of India. With its many pubs and bars, and also with the city being the headquarters of United Breweries, makers of the popular Kingfisher Beer, Bengaluru is a drinker’s dream.

Bengaluru Airport is 13 km east of the City Station. Bengaluru Airport is a domestic airport that caters to certain international flights too. Among others, notable direct flights are from Frankfurt on Lufthansa (daily flights), from Singapore on Silk Air (Singapore Airlines), from Kuala Lumpur on Malaysian Airlines, from London on British Airways (daily flights) and from Bangkok on Thai Airways. Recently, Air France has started operating flights between Bengaluru and Paris

Bengaluru is situated at an altitude of 920 meters above sea level and famous for its tree-lined streets and profuse greenery. Unlike other parts of India which are extremely hot in the summer months, Bengaluru enjoys a relatively mild climate year round.

Modern marvels combined with stunning nightlife make it an ideal destination for everybody. Bengaluru has carved a special niche for itself in the Software Services world. So as corollary to this it is a place frequented by the technology Czars from all over the world. Added to this the salubrious climate of the place and its other interesting attractions make it a captivating destination for leisure vacationers too.

Bengaluru is famous for its innumerable educational and research institutes. The India Institute of Science, set in sprawling grounds, is the largest and best in India. It does cutting-edge research on almost any topic imaginable. There is also the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, which conducts two sky-gazing shows daily, and conducts many exhibitions and workshops by / for children

Bengaluru provides wide range of options for shoppers. One can buy many things ranging from silk saree and latest clothing to hi-fi electronic goods and latest vehicles. Being IT city, Bengaluru provides all kind of services but one might find things to be costlier.

Many visitors come to Bengaluru searching only for sandalwood carvings and silk sarees and so miss out on the true Bengaluru shopping experience. Here is a low down on shopping – Bengaluru style:

The M.G Road/Brigade Road area is the most popular place for tourists, and these two roads are filled with shops of every kind, whether it be traditional handicrafts or the latest western wear (this is especially true for Brigade Road). The dialing code for Bengaluru is 080. When calling from overseas, dial 91 80 XXXX XXXX.

If you don’t have an Indian phone number, it is strongly recommended that you get a pre-paid calling card if you plan on using your phone frequently. Because of government regulations, you need a photocopy of your passport (visa and the ID pages) and a color photo when buying a pre-paid card. Pre-paid cards are sold in most shops that sell mobile equipment.

Bengaluru is a relatively safe city. But it is not advisable to walk along deserted alleyways or lanes after dark. Rising incomes has brought an influx of people from outside the city, leading to extreme disparities in earnings between localites and people from other states, which arguably has resulted in a substantial increase in crime rates. Avoid using an auto rickshaw if the driver is not alone.

Once in Malta it will only take you between 20 and 30 minutes to arrive in Gozo. The short trip is well worth it. As Gozo is well known for it’s fine crafts, particularly its handmade lace, hand-woven fabrics, blown glass and silver filigree.

The strongest influence on Gozitan cuisine is Sicilian, though the popularity of grilled chops, roasts and three veg reveals a strong partiality to all things British.
Tourists and where to go

Local specialties include pastizzi (savoury cheese pastries), timpana (a macaroni, cheese and egg pie), fenek (rabbit), which is usually fried or baked in a casserole or pie, and bragioli( spicy beef rolls). Lunchtime in Gozo should not be a hurried affair.
Allow yourself plenty of time – pick a good seat overlooking the harbour at one of the many little resorts that Gozo has to choose from. Try something local to eat in one of several waterfront restaurants, and enjoy!

A visit to the Citadel is a must and will probably be the highlight of your stay in Gozo. A walk in the citadel is a real pleasure. The narrow alleys house shops selling local craft and wandering around you’ll find yourself asking what will be view that the next angle will display in front of your eyes, what other hidden treasure you will discover.

Gozitans have a very strong identity within Malta as a whole country. Sometimes this might lead to Gozitans segregating themselves when working or studying in mainland Malta. Gozo is the only region in Malta which has a Minister responsible for it. Generally speaking, Gozo is more socially conservative than the rest of the country.

The history of Gozo is strongly coupled with the history of Malta, since Gozo has been governed by Malta within recent history, with the exception of a short period of autonomy, granted to Gozo by Napoleon after his conquest of Malta, between 28 October 1798 and 5 September 1800.

Gozo earned its popular nickname the Island of the Three Hills probably derived from the hilly view when observed from mainland Malta. Throughout the years Gozo has been vastly influenced by the cultures and history of a series of dominators including the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spanish, the Knights of St. John, the French and the British, who all left their mark on the cultural and the folkloristic heritage of the population.
