Dressing for Denver Climate

Denver has more than 300 days of sunny days a year. Not true to popular belief, Denver is not a place with a lot of snow. Even when it snows, it melts quickly. The mountain heights are warm during the day, but do not forget to keep some sweaters to keep you warm after the sun disappears in the western horizon.

Denver has four distinct seasons – Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter

It goes without saying that the climate in the plains is greatly influenced by the Rocky Mountains that you can find towards the west. The climate is not stable during any season. It snows in winter, the moment you least expect it. Luckily it also disappears quickly. At times you can enjoy warm sunlight. At the same time, you will find it increasingly difficult to get away without a medium-weight sweater. Warmth and cold at the same time –that is the peculiarity of Denver weather.

Visiting Denver during Spring

Take some reasonably weight, comfortable jacket with you while you plan to visit Denver in spring. You can find days to be sunny, but evenings are chilling. Don’t forget your tie if you are to attend some business meetings or to dine at a cozy formal restaurant.

Summer in Denver

Take a sunglass with you, whenever you visit Denver, especially during summer. You also must be prudent enough to not to forget your jacket when you plan to be out after evening. You can’t say for sure when a comfortable sweater comes as a handy help to keep the cold out. Adventurers please note – keep long pants and full-sleeve warm jackets handy as there are chances of sudden rise of summer storms.

Fall

Fall in Denver is characterized by warm days and cool afternoons and evenings. Take different layers of clothing with you if you plan to visit Rocky Mountains, where you may be greeted with some unexpected climatic conditions.

Winter in Denver

There is a reputation that Denver is full of snow. However, you can find here temperature 60 degrees and above. Also, keep in mind that the temperature can also stoop to below freezing level. Expect chilling temperature in the mountains. Don’t go without a pair of reliable boots. You will see snow falling. It also disappears at the same pace as it snowed.

You can enjoy golf in winter too. Skiing, tennis, etc are also the activities you can enjoy at select locations.

Chang Mai is the largest city in the north of Thailand and well worth a trip. In many ways, Chang Mai is similar to Bangkok, but without the mass of people.

Chang Mai

Chang Mai is perhaps the most serene big city I have ever had the privilege of visiting. Located at the foot of a large mountain, the city nicely meshes older areas with modern conveniences. Serene Buddhist temples stand only a few blocks from bustling universities. Much of the city can be walked, but moped rentals are cheap and plentiful. Street markets are common, but the hustle and bustle of Bangkok is not.

The night market is perhaps the most noted thing about Chang Mai. Located in the eastern side of the city, the night market runs about a mile down the length of street dwarfed by malls, restaurants, stores selling art and spas. The stalls on the side of the road tend to sell cheap touristy products, but you should check them out anyway to sample some of the food items. Thais seem to take great humor from cooking anything they can get their hands on so long as they can gross out the tourist. Yep, you can munch on fried roaches, spiders, crickets and so on. For a good laugh, one can hang out around the stalls and watch tourist try the delicacies. It’s like the show Fear Factor without the washboard stomachs and breast implants.

To find the “good stuff” at the night market, you should head off the street and up into the open air malls. As you move towards the back of the malls, the quality of the products goes up dramatically. You’ll find artist not only hocking their wares, but also creating them before your eyes. There is some serious talent in the back of those malls.

If silk is your material of choice, Chang Mai is a good place to purchase it in bulk. Do not buy it at the night market. Instead, ask your hotel for a recommendation to a shop. Prices are low, but quality is high.

Traveler’s Tip

Guidebooks will tell you the best way to get to Chang Mai is to take an overnight train from Bangkok. Liars! Flying domestically in Thailand is very cheap. A one-way flight from Bangkok to Chang Mai will run you about $40US. There is no need to book ahead. Just walk into the airport in Bangkok and buy a ticket on the spot.

If you prefer to spend the night in a bunk on a train, knock yourself out. Just keep in mind Thais tend to have smaller body masses than Westerners. Much smaller.

Of all the cities in Thailand, Chang Mai is my favorite. Yes, even more so than Bangkok.

Mexican Waves

Temples and cathedrals along with fully equipped beaches are attractions worth looking forward to on a Mexico tour. Lively and colorful is how one will describe the tourist attractions of Mexico.

Mexico City, the capital city is replete with many green spaces and quiet back streets which lend a special charm and atmosphere to the attractions. Next only to the Red Square in Moscow in size, is the Zocalo in the center of the Historic Center. Tourists can visit this place any evening to witness the Mexican army take down the giant Mexican flag flying in the middle of the square with grand ceremony. To the north of the square is another attraction, the Catedral Metropolitana which exhibits a surplus of architectural styles. A tour of the cathedral prominently figures the Kings Chapel and its altar. If you move a little east of the cathedral, the excavated site of the Aztec Templo Mayor (Great Temple) is an attraction in ruins. Keep a visit to the prettiest colonial villages – Coyoacan and San Angel for the weekend. This is the time when you will find its attractive squares and streets come alive with an influx of students, artists, musicians and can purchase some fine good quality handicrafts and artworks.

An attraction you would not like to miss is Teotihuacán in South-central Mexico and known as the ‘city where the Gods are born’. Here, you can view the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, the citadel with the Temple of Quetzalcoatl (the plumed serpent) and the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl (the plumed butterfly).
